Fax: 644-3675
Email: emcnair@fsu.edu - What is the intent and selection criteria of the program?
The intent of the EIEG program is to give FSU faculty and staff a means to acquire equipment that they cannot obtain through other internal and external funding channels and to enhance collaborative research for the University in ways directly related to enhancing research and or creative activities for the University across many disciplines.
The selection criteria of the program are as follows:
- Merit of the research that will be enabled;
- Expected improvement in competition for external funding;
- Improvement to the FSU research infrastructure, over time;
- Cross discipline and cross campus utilization
Following the first round of reviews based on the published criteria the Review Panel paid particular attention to:
- Whether the proposed equipment is truly unique to FSU or it is an upgrade to current FSU assets.
- Whether the equipment is beneficial to multiple departments, multiple projects, multiple disciplines, and multiple researchers.
- Whether the proposed research that will be conducted with the equipment is likely to be funded at the federal level.
- Whether the involved faculty demonstrated they have experience doing research and creative activities and can be good stewards of support funds.
- Whether there were alternate sources available to the research to fund the proposed work.
- What should the length of the Proposal be?
The proposal text consists of 7 questions. You should limit your answers for each question to one page per answer. - Can I exceed the 1 page per response limit specified in the Proposal section?
Yes but only if you need to include supplemental material for a question. Please include them as an appendix at the end of your Proposal. - Can I exceed the overall 7 page limit in the Proposal section?
Yes, but only if you need to include supplemental material for a question. Please include them as an appendix at the end of your Proposal. - What is the typical length of the full application?
Including all of the required proposal elements (Transmittal Form, Bio, Current and Pending Support, etc.) the typical application runs about 20 pages. - If my equipment involves Humans or Animals do I need to have an approved protocol BEFORE I apply for the grant?
Not necessarily, you may have a protocol that is being considered by the Human Subjects Committee or the Animal Care Committee. In this case you should include the official status form of your protocol as an amendment to your EIEG proposal. Keep in mind that funds will not be released to you unless you have committee approval. - Where can I include my budget justification?
Budget justification should be included under question 1 of the proposal text. Additional price quotes can be included as appendices to the Proposal text. - May we add an appendix to the proposal text?

Typically winning proposals are in the $30-$50K range. Proposals with higher requests are allowed but they must show strong support for the program criteria. - Is this a multi-year grant or a single grant?
Winning proposal will be funded for a single year for the purchase of equipment or other infrastructure enhancing resources. - Is there a limit on how many proposal I can submit per round?
No, you may submit multiple proposals per round. You may also be listed as a PI or Co PI on multiple proposals. - Can I include private grants in the pending and current support form?
Yes - 1) Are there any equipment costs that should not be included in my price quote?
Yes, this grant will not cover continuing costs of installation, operation, repairs, maintenance and replacement of the equipment or tool. However, we do need to know if there are any continuing costs and how they will be covered. If your department or dean agrees to pay for these associated costs you should disclose that information in Question 5 of the proposal. - Can I submit a copy of a signed page 1 of the transmittal or do I need to forward the original as well?
