"TO THE EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW". . .

Attention all researchers: this phrase must appear on all consent forms promising confidentiality to subjects.  Example: "information obtained during the course of the study will remain confidential, to the extent allowed by law . . ."

This additional wording is required for all research protocols due to recent changes in both Federal and State courts.
