Materials Science at FSU

Materials science is an exciting interdisciplinary field of study involving the properties of matter and its applications to various areas with the goal of engineering new materials with superior properties. This science investigates the relationship between the structure of materials at atomic or molecular scales and their macroscopic properties. It includes elements of applied physics and chemistry, as well as biology and engineering.

Florida State University has a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary research and graduate education programs in materials synthesis, characterization and applications. We are conducting research involving materials such as carbon nanotubes, high temperature superconductors, bionanosensors and catalysts.

This site has been developed to showcase our work with materials science and to provide a place where researchers within the FSU community can share their research expertise and develop partnerships to further their work. We hope that you find this site useful. If you have any suggestions or questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Research.
