Computation and Theory

Florida State University has a wide range computational and theoretical materials research activities in the Department of Scientific Computing, Physics Department, Chemistry Department and the College Engineering. Incoming students will find great research opportunities in the areas of first-principles based materials modeling, molecular level simulations, advanced Monte Carlo and statistical modeling techniques and continuum and multiscale material research methods. Research applications include the properties of materials derived from their electronic and atomic structure, microstructural stability and pattern formation in materials, materials interfaces, microstructure mechanics, materials chemistry, and the response of materials in extreme mechanical, electromagnetic, high temperature and irradiation environments.
