A Brief Overview of CRC Competitive Proposal Programs

The CRC offers eligible FSU Faculty these traditional programs (listed in alphabetical order) requiring competitive review. Full-time faculty are eligible for these programs except where noted. Visiting professors will be considered eligible providing the sole reason for their “visiting” status is that they are awaiting permanent US residency.

Arts & Humanities Program Enhancement Grant (AHPEG) Program

Proposal Deadline: 1/13/2016

AHPEGs are uniquely designed to facilitate and enhance the productivity of FSU researchers and artists through supporting the creation, production and dissemination of arts and humanities research and creative activity. This program provides up to $20,000 per project; it does not provide funds for faculty salary. Specifics appear in the official Request for Proposals.

Committee on Faculty Research Support (COFRS) Award Program

Proposal Deadline: 11/23/2015

This program provides up to $14,000 toward summer salary support to assist with research or creative endeavors that encourage outside funding. A typical budget might include faculty salary with fringe benefits, student assistant stipend with fringe benefits, travel and supplies. Specifics appear in the official Request for Proposals.

Equipment and Infrastructure Enhancement Grant (EIEG) Program

Proposal Deadlines: 10/30/2015 and 3/24/2016

This program averages $40,000, per award, in support of acquiring new equipment or infrastructure enhancements (such as upgrades to existing equipment, data sets, data or tracking systems). The award only provides funding for equipment that supports multidisciplinary FSU alliances involving research and creative activity. This program does not support project-related expenses include installation, operation, repairs, maintenance or replacement of this equipment tool. First Year Assistant Professor (FYAP) Award Program

Proposal Deadline: 11/9/2015

The purpose of this program is to provide first-year assistant professors with summer salary support to facilitate their research and/or creative activities, including efforts to obtain external funding for their work. The CRC seeks FYAP proposals that clearly indicate a planned effort to establish an on-going program of research or creative activity at FSU. This program provides $20,000 per project for summer salary support, including fringe benefits. Specifics appear in the official Request for Proposals.

Funding Agency Travel (FAT) Program

No deadlines; apply year-round

This program supports faculty who are beginning to establish a new program of research or creative activity and who have yet to obtain external funding for that program or creative activity, in order that they may meet with representatives of funding agencies or organizations that are likely to provide external support for that work. This program provides up to $1,000 in travel funding. Specifics appear in the official Request for Proposals.

Multidisciplinary Support (MDS) Program

Proposal Deadline: 10/21/2015

This program supports the initial formation of multidisciplinary FSU alliances planning research and creative activity. The proposal must describe how the initial joint efforts will result in new programs of research or creative activity that will lead to external funding, and how FSU will benefit from the establishment of new multidisciplinary research and creative projects. This program provides up to $25,000 per project. Specifics appear in the official Request for Proposals.

Planning Grant (PG) Program

Proposal Deadlines: 10/1/2015 and 3/2/2016

The purpose of this program is to provide start-up funding for a new direction or continuing early support of existing research or creative activity, with the goal being that the principal investigator will eventually obtain external support for the continuation of his or her efforts. This program provides $13,000 per project; it does not provide funds for faculty salary. Specifics appear in the official Request for Proposals.

Small Grants Program (SGP)

Proposal Deadlines: 10/12/2015 and 3/16/2016

The purpose of this program is to provide a source of funding to assist faculty with the completion of a research project or creative activity for which other funding sources are not available. This program provides $3,000 per project; it does not provide funds for faculty salary. Specifics appear in the official Request for Proposals.

Honorary Recognition Programs

The CRC sponsors three programs designed to recognize and honors the research accomplishments of developing faculty, scholar scientists and more senior faculty at FSU.

Developing Scholar Award (DSA)

Proposal Deadline: 1/22/2016

This program is designed to identify, recognize and honor future research leaders at the rank of associate professor. This program provides a one-time award of $10,000 (to be used during the 12 months following the award) to promote the awardee’s FSU research or creative program. A detailed budget plan for use of the funds is required. Specifics appear in the official Call for Nominations.

Distinguished Research Professor (DRP) Award

Proposal Deadline: 2/12/2016

This program is designed to recognize and honor outstanding research, scholarly and/or creative activity among FSU faculty having national and international visibility and the rank of full professor. This program provides the honorary title of “Distinguished Research Professor” and a one-time award of $10,000. Specifics appear in the official Call for Nominations.

Distinguished University Scholar (DUS) Award

Proposal Deadline: 2/22/2016

This program is designed to recognize and honor outstanding research, scholarly and/or creative activity among FSU non-tenure track faculty having considerable visibility and specific titles, such as Research Associate or Scholar Scientist, for example. This program provides the honorary title of “Distinguished University Scholar” and a one-time award of $10,000. Specifics appear in the official Call for Nominations.
