Student Leaders meet with leaders on The Hill

Last week, FSU student government leaders joined with their counterparts from other ACC schools in meetings on Capitol Hill to discuss the importance of increased federal investment in research and student financial aid programs. The FSU group met with with staffers from the offices of Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott and Representative Lois Frankel. The students also met directly with Representatives Neal Dunn, Al Lawson, Ted Deutch, and Department of Education Secretary Betsy Devos.

The group highlighted the important roles that students play on federally funded research teams, making tangible contributions today while gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to join the future research workforce.

Through some personal experiences, students described how the Pell Grant and Federal Work Study programs are helping to make college a realistic option for many. The students will return to the Hill in the spring to discuss policy issues such as campus safety and immigration.
