Customized Workshops for Research Success

The Research Development team offers a variety of workshops and training opportunities designed to strengthen research capacity, enhance collaboration, and increase research impact. Sessions can be delivered as standalone workshops or customized for the specific needs of a department, college, center, institute, laboratory, or research team. Topics can be adapted to different disciplines, career stages, and levels of research experience.

Learn how to recruit, organize, and manage high-performing research teams. This workshop examines leadership approaches, team dynamics, delegation, motivation, and the creation of a culture that supports innovation and productivity.

Building Collaborative Research Capacity

Discover strategies to strengthen the long-term collaborative research ecosystem across departments, colleges, centers, and institutions. Topics may include partnership development, research networks, infrastructure, and fostering a culture of collaboration.

Communicating Research Impact

Learn how to articulate the significance and real-world outcomes of your research to sponsors, institutional leaders, and stakeholders. Participants will explore frameworks for describing research impact and demonstrating value beyond scholarly publications.

Communicating Research to Broader Audiences

Develop skills for translating complex research into clear, compelling messages for non-specialist audiences. This session addresses public communication, storytelling techniques, media engagement, and audience-centered communication strategies.

Communication Strategies for Research Teams

Effective communication is critical to successful collaboration. Participants will learn techniques to improve information sharing, manage expectations, navigate conflict, and foster productive communication among diverse research team members.

Data Management & Sharing Plans

Craft Data Management & Sharing Plans (DMSPs) that meet policy requirements as we walk through what DMSPs are, resources that are available to help craft DMSPs, how to create them, and examples of DMSPs for specific funding agencies.

Finding Collaborators

Explore approaches for identifying and engaging potential collaborators within and beyond your institution. This session covers networking strategies, interdisciplinary partnerships, and building productive research relationships that strengthen proposal competitiveness.

Finding Funding

Learn strategies for identifying external funding opportunities that align with research interests, career stage, and institutional priorities. Topics may include funding search tools, sponsor landscapes, funding forecasts, and the development of a proactive funding strategy.

Research Mentoring

Examine evidence-based practices for mentoring undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and junior faculty. Participants will learn strategies for setting expectations, fostering professional growth, and creating supportive research environments.

SciENcv Tutorial

Develop required biosketches through an interactive tutorial on the ORCID, MyNCBI, and SciENcv platforms, including efficient ways to import your citations and a how-to demonstration for creating and exporting NIH and NSF biosketches.

Team Science

Explore principles and best practices for conducting collaborative, interdisciplinary research. Topics include team formation, shared goals, collaborative workflows, and strategies for overcoming common challenges in team-based research.
