National Endowment for the Arts Q&A Session

Date: Thurs., Feb 26, 2026 at 2pm
Location: Zoom (link provided to registrants)
Three program officers from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) will offer a virtual Q&A meeting with FSU faculty. They will take questions regarding the Research Awards initiative and the Grants for Arts Projects (GAP) program. They will not be offering a presentation, but they request that faculty view the program video tutorials in advance of the meeting.
The Research Awards initiative includes both the Research Grants in the Arts Program and the Research Labs Program. Video tutorials for the Research Awards initiative are forthcoming and will be found here.
- The Research Grants in the Arts Program supports research studies that investigate the value and/or impacts of the arts in American life. These awards require a 1:1 cost share.
- The Research Labs Program funds long-term research agendas that include multiple empirical studies and the dissemination of various products or services for promoting public knowledge about the arts and their contributions to American life. Each lab must include an interdisciplinary team of researchers. Products or services developed under the award are expected to be of value to arts researchers, arts practitioners, and professionals in sectors such as healthcare, education, and business or management. Funded projects should have national, regional, or field-wide significance. Note: Research Labs is a limited submissions opportunity, with FSU permitted to advance only one application. The application slot is now available on a first-come, first-served basis; interested faculty must submit a Notice of Interest (NOI) via the FSU Limited Submissions portal.
The Grants for Arts Projects (GAP) program supports art projects with cost share/matching grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000. Video tutorials for GAP can be found here.
- The GAP program supports projects in the following disciplines/categories: Arts Education, Challenge America, Dance, Design & Our Town, Folk & Traditional Arts, Literary Arts, Local Arts Agencies, Museums, Music, Opera, Presenting & Multidisciplinary Arts, Theater & Musical Theater, and Visual & Media Arts. Note: The GAP program is a limited submissions opportunity, with FSU permitted to advance only one application. This program has two deadlines annually, but FSU will not be submitting an application for the first agency deadline; interested faculty must plan for the second agency deadline of July 9th. Interested faculty must submit NOIs via the FSU Limited Submissions portal by April 30 at 5pm ET.
The NEA program officers will be Melissa Menzer, Program Analyst for the NEA's Office of Research & Analysis; Christopher Orr, Grants Management Specialist for the NEA's Music team; and Daniel Beattie, Director of the NEA's Office of Guidelines and Panel Operations.
