Join the Research Development (RD) team for a series of workshops on the NSF CAREER program. These workshops take faculty on a deep dive into CAREER, NSF's eminent funding program in support of early-career faculty who can serve as academic leaders in research and education and produce groundbreaking research in science, engineering, and technology. Workshop participants will learn about unique aspects of the NSF CAREER proposal requirements and strategies, tools, and best practices for a competitive application.  

Thursday, February 19th | 12:00 noon: Introduction to NSF CAREER

  • Speakers: Beth Hodges, Jared Parmer
  • Details: This session will provide an overview of the NSF CAREER program, including who should apply and when. We'll review recent changes that may affect your submission and discuss the unique "genre" of an NSF proposal - covering both the nuts and bolts as well as key elements of content and structure. 

Friday, February 27th | 8:30 am: NSF CAREER Awardee Panel

  • Speakers: Cyprian LewendowskiPedro Fernandez-Caban, Huixuan Wu
  • Details: Attendees will gain valuable insights from both former NSF CAREER awardees and experienced reviewers. Our panel will share practical advice on what makes a proposal successful, highlight common pitfalls to avoid, and offer candid perspectives from their own experiences. This is an opportunity to learn directly from those who have navigated the process - what works, what doesn't, and how to strengthen your proposal. 

Tuesday, March 3rd | 1:00 pm: Integrating Research and Teaching

  • Speakers: Roxanne Hughes, Ellen Granger
  • Details: The integration of research and teaching is a cornerstone of a successful NSF CAREER proposal. This session will explore strategies for weaving your research goals into innovative educational activities that enhance student learning and broaden your impact. Learn practical approaches to designing integrated plans that align with NSF expectations, showcase creativity, and demonstrate how your work will advance both scholarship and education.

Thursday, March 5th | 1:00 pm: Broader Impacts

  • Speakers: Crystal Ladwig, Cody Diefenthaler
  • Details: To make your CAREER proposal stand out, you must clearly articulate its broader impacts—both within your discipline and across society. This session will help you identify high-value impact areas and explore practical strategies for engaging external partners, building collaborations that amplify your research and extend its societal reach.

Thursday, March 12th | noon: Working with RAMP and SRA to Submit Your Proposal

  • Speakers: Rose Driber, Susanne Stamm
  • Details: Understanding HOW to submit for CAREER is very important and something that is best to learn early so that you can be prepared.  This session will walk you through the process of working with Sponsored Research Administration and using RAMP, FSU’s grants portal, to submit your documents.

Location:  All workshops will be held on Zoom.  Registrants will be emailed links ahead of each session.
