SPEAR Workshop

Sponsored Research Administration is providing a two day workshop that will follow the life cycle of a sponsored project from funding announcement through close-out of the award.  We will provide lots of hands-on activities – all participants will have a computer to go through the exercises!

We will address the following areas with many hands-on exercises:

  • Funding Announcements: how to locate and review for essential information
  • Proposal Transmittal Forms: how to submit a proposal through the OMNI workflow system
  • Budget Development: how to use the available tools (OMNI, Facts Sheet, etc.)
  • Collaboration: what are the steps for issuing a subaward (proposal and award stage)
  • application: how to complete with all the required elements
  • Awards: how to review for  programmatic requirements
  • Rules and Regulations: overview of the cost principles, administrative and audit requirements (i.e. Uniform Guidance)
  • Project management: what you need to know from a departmental perspective
  • Rebudgeting: step by step process
  • Reporting: technical and financial reports
  • Closeouts: overall process and departmental responsibilities


The Office of Institutional Research (IR) and the Division of Sponsored Research (SR) provides training classes each semester on the effort certification process. One class is designed for faculty and the other for staff. Registration is not required.

Sponsored Research Administration Certificate Series

This certificate series offers an opportunity for FSU sponsored projects support staff (central and departmental) to further develop and enhance their knowledge and skills related to the management of sponsored funding.
