Navigating ClinicalTrials.gov

Are you new to ClinicalTrials.gov and find yourself struggling with how to start and where to go for help? Or do you already have an account but find the website difficult to navigate and the required details daunting? In a collaborative effort, the Office for Clinical Research Advancement (OCRA) and the Office of Research Development (ORD) have developed a workshop for ClinicalTrials.gov users. The workshop will cover creating a ClinicalTrials.gov account for new users, study registration, the PRS review process, and review timelines for study submission/updating. You also will get to hear from a ClinicalTrials.gov user, Human Sciences Associate Professor Michael Ormsbee, on what has helped him “survive” ClinicalTrials.gov. Attendees are invited to bring their own scenarios for discussion during a Q&A session and should leave the workshop with skills to successfully navigate and manage their studies within ClinicalTrials.gov
About the Speakers
Krissy Capitano, RN, BSN is the Clinical Research Navigator in the Office for Clinical Research Advancement (OCRA). Her job is to help FSU clinical researchers successfully navigate the life cycle of a study at any point, from conception and planning, implementation and execution, to analysis and publication of data and outcomes. She also serves as FSU’s ClinicalTrials.gov administrator where she assists researchers and teams with account set-up, study submission requirements and study records regulatory compliance. Before joining FSU, she was the Head Clinical Research Nurse at the University of Georgia’s Clinical Translational Research Unit in Athens for several years. She worked closely with Emory University, the Morehouse School of Medicine and Georgia Tech University as part of UGA’s participation in Emory’s Clinical Translational Science Award research collaboration. She previously served as an industry trial research nurse, surgical and perioperative nurse at several health care facilities in Georgia.
Nutrition, Food, & Exercise Sciences Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences & Medicine, Michael J. Ormsbee is the Associate Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences & Medicine and an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Food & Exercise Sciences at Florida State University. He is also an honorary research fellow at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. Dr. Ormsbee is a Fellow of both the American College of Sports Medicine and the International Society of Sports Nutrition and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). His research expertise involves the interaction of exercise training, nutrition, and supplementation to improve metabolism and achieve optimal body composition, human performance, and health in athletic and clinical populations. Dr. Ormsbee was honored as the 2013 Transformation through Teaching Award winner, 2014 FSU Undergraduate Teacher of the Year, 2017 Nutrition Researcher of the Year by the NSCA, 2018 FSU Graduate Student Mentor of the Year, 2020 FSU Distinguished Teacher of the Year, and the 2020 Sport Scientist of the Year by the NSCA. His course, “Changing Body Composition Through Diet and Exercise” is available worldwide through The Great Courses.
